24-Hour and Overnight Care in Overland Park

Our office is on Santa Fe Drive, in Overland Park. We are not a franchise and never have been. Benefits of Home Senior Care has been family owned since 2007, and every week we help 140 to 150 people across Johnson County stay in their own homes rather than move.

If the nights have become the hard part, that is usually the first sign a family starts looking. You do not have to have it worked out before you call.

Overnight, 24-hour, or something in between

These are three different things, and the difference is what you pay for.

Overnight care

A caregiver in the home through the night, for the hours when falls, confusion and wandering actually happen. Days stay as they are.

24-hour care

Continuous coverage across shifts, so someone is awake and present at every hour. Used when a person cannot safely be alone at any point in the day.

Extended shifts

Longer blocks of coverage built around the specific hours that have become difficult, rather than around the clock.

In our own words, from the FAQ on our home page: "We provide overnight care, extended shifts, and 24-hour support for seniors who need continuous supervision or assistance. Whether your loved one needs help during the night, around-the-clock care, or coverage during specific hours, we will create a schedule that fits your family's needs."

Overland Park, in our own experience

We call Overland Park home. Our office has been here for many years.

For nearly 20 years we have been a preferred provider at Tallgrass Creek, the largest independent living community in the area.

We support multiple acute hospital rehabilitation units in Overland Park, including Johnson County Rehabilitation Hospital at Overland Park, MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital, PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Overland Park and Saint Luke's Rehabilitation Institute. We also support the Overland Park skilled nursing rehabs, among them Brookdale, Colonial Village Overland Park, Stratford Commons, Advanced Health Care of Overland Park and Village Shalom.

What the overnight caregiver is there to do

Through the night

Help getting to the bathroom safely, reassurance during confusion, and someone awake if a fall happens.

Overnight care

Dementia at night

More than 80 of the people we support each week are living with dementia. Our caregivers are trained in Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care.

Dementia care

Medications

RN-led medication setup and management, run by Jan Swarts, our Director of Nursing, who has more than 40 years of nursing experience.

Personalized care

Mornings and daily living

Bathing, dressing, meals, light housekeeping and errands. Most of what we do is non-medical companion and personal care.

What we help with

Who comes to the door

Benefits of Home Senior Care is licensed by the State of Kansas, insured and bonded. Kent and Karen Westervelt, who own the agency, are both certified Community Educators for the Alzheimer's Association. Felisha Cummings, our Client Care and Scheduling Manager, has more than 15 years in senior care and does the caregiver matching herself.

Being independent rather than a franchise is the part that matters at two in the morning. Nothing about the schedule comes off a national shelf, and you know exactly who you are dealing with.

What Overland Park families ask before they call

What does overnight care cost?

Our rate is $34 an hour with a three hour minimum. There are no weekly minimums, no surcharges and no long term contracts. Long term care insurance support and family dementia training are included at no charge.

Do you serve all of Overland Park?

Yes. Our office is at 8826 Santa Fe Drive, Suite 203, in Overland Park, and we also serve Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood, Prairie Village, Mission and Mission Hills.

If I call tonight, when can care start?

Normally, care can start the next day. We conduct an assessment in the morning and work to set up proper care that same day per your schedule needs.

Is the phone answered overnight?

Yes, we have an on-call manager 24/7 who will answer the phone and help you with your situation.

What is the difference between 24-hour care and live-in care?

24-hour care ensures someone is with your loved one at all times and is staffed with 4-5 permanent caregivers. 24-hour care has zero tax issues. A "live-in" is typically the same person living in the home. Life happens; they need a break, so who will cover when they leave? "Live-ins" have tax issues due to overtime and payment rules.

What Overland Park families have said

"We had caregivers from Benefits of Home Senior Care stay at my mom's home overnight so that we could go home and rest as she was in her last days with terminal cancer. The owners, Kent and his wife, came over and introduced themselves and helped us figure out our needs. Kent is very knowledgeable and thorough about submitting invoices to Long Term Insurance, if needed. If we had any issues, they were quickly resolved by Felicia, the office manager. We had the best caregivers, Kaitlin and Cassie. They both made us feel comfortable about going home each night. They cared for my mom so well. I highly recommend this company."
